However, culture itself grows and wanes dependent upon the people, actions and targets of those in the school community. Culture will ultimately win out over strategy. I’m not certain who to attribute the phrase to - I believe it was originally Peter Drucker, but it holds true as much in education circles as it does in business. Yet for those who in the school who understand the power of climate and the culture of learning that can be established in a school, this is a misinformed decision. Policy is still condemning the promotion of school climate to an add-on or a nice to-do, something to concern oneself with once the evaluations are in.and are positive. Nowhere in NCLB was there a recommendation to slash the range of subjects taught but because of the punitive nature of the accountability measures tied to the act, classroom instruction atrophied and learning overall suffered. As Jonathan Cohen wrote, Current federal and state educational policy and accountability systems: Policy shapes practice.Īnd just as we saw via the well-intended but ultimately flawed No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act, policy will influence classroom instruction. One or both of the equipment cooling warning lights came on to indicate low airflow through the cooling fans (a result of the decreased air density), accompanied by the master caution light. In the next few minutes, several warning lights on the overhead panel in the cockpit illuminated. The alert sound is identical for both warnings. ![]() As it passed through an altitude of 12,040 feet (3,670 m), the cabin altitude warning horn sounded. The warning should have prompted the crew to stop climbing, but it was misidentified by the crew as a take-off configuration warning, which signals that the aircraft is not ready for take-off, and can only sound on the ground. During these checks, no one on the flight deck noticed the incorrect setting. The aircraft took off with the pressurization system still set to "manual," and the aft outflow valve partially open.Īs the aircraft climbed, the pressure inside the cabin gradually decreased. In order to carry out this check without requiring the aircraft's engines, the pressurization system was set to "manual." However, the engineer failed to reset it to "auto" on completion of the test.Īfter the aircraft was returned into service, the flight crew overlooked the pressurization system state on three occasions: during the pre-flight procedure, the after-start check, and the after take-off check. They requested a full inspection of the door. The inspection was carried out by a ground engineer, who then performed a pressurization leak check. When the aircraft arrived from London earlier that morning, the previous flight crew had reported a frozen door seal, and abnormal noises coming from the right aft service door. It was the deadliest aviation accident in Greek history. A loss of cabin pressurization incapacitated the crew, leaving the aircraft flying on autopilot until it ran out of fuel, and crashed near Grammatiko, Greece. Timeless trends and contemporary kitchen design styles You can see how the looks of the 90s have been taken through and evolved into the contemporary kitchens we see today. The 1990s also saw the rise in popularity of kitchen islands. Moving onwards through the 90s and onto the present day, kitchens became even more minimalist. A consistency was brought to kitchen design that ran through cabinets, countertops and appliances. In contrast to previous decades, the 1980s saw kitchens that had more calming and neutral designs. White became the go-to design trend and good lighting really became a must-have. It is here that you can really trace back the styles that largely make up the designs of our contemporary kitchens. Kitchens from the 1980s were brighter, lighter and whiter, in general. The 80s, 90s and contemporary kitchen styles Colours were more muted and a natural, wood palette became increasingly popular. This was reflected in terms of kitchen design too. In contrast to the flamboyant and carefree nature of the sixties, the 1970s was a far more sedate decade. It was also the decade that stainless steel appliances began to appear. Kitchens remained functional and utilised every inch of available space. In the 1950s, kitchens tended to favour pastel colours, bubble-shaped appliances and lots and lots of coloured lino! The 1960s was all about bright colours but overall design styles began to incorporate more straight, clean lines that created a modern feel. Creating a beautiful look for a kitchen that will remain appealing for years and years to come is something of an art.
